Oh Yeah Burger - Brewery Yard Market

Gosh sorry guys, been so lazy to write anything on the blog! It's uni holidays, and I just don't feel like writing anything! Have been writing tons of reports and essays during Uni so I need a break and I feel like I deserve a break!!

Anyhow... It's so hot today in Sydney I think it was around 28 degree celcius today, I don't know what I am going to do on Wednesday next week as it's going to be 30+! Guess it's going to be a sleepless night again...

So went to Brewery Yard Market today as today is their last market for 2015 so I felt obliged to go (Not to mention plenty of food to eat there! another excuse to pig out!). Went there empty tummy and came home with full tum tum and happy! So typical Yuli.

Enough blabbing now on to the goodies...

The infamous Curry Tonkatsu Burger from Oh Yeah Burger:
Curry Tonkatsu Burger $10 extra cheese (add 50c more)
Now here's how it looks like inside:

Love the jalapeno and the thick tonkatsu!!
Oh I also tried their Rice Salmon Burger too!!
Rice Salmon Burger $10
Because I love Salmon so this one is ultra DELICIOUS!

It was quite busy today at the Market:
Yeah my fave stall

Busy at work making burgers and taking orders

Peanut butter brownies - Chewy

Now now!! If you know me, you will know that the thing that I love the most is Peanut Butter and Matcha!

I was doing my Ethics assignment last week and then suddenly had the urge to eat something peanut buttery, Maybe it's because my "guest" is coming soon or just because my sweet tooth kicked in I don't know but due to this I was searching online for a perfect peanut butter brownie recipe... I found one that everyone says it's the best PB brownie recipe, I tried and it's a bit too dry for me, I don't know maybe I need to adjust the baking time, and also it's not as chewy as I would like.

So I tried other recipes, but the result is not as satisfying, so I ended up using my usual brownies recipe but modify it. Also please note, I don't like using baking powder in my brownies because I think it dries my brownie. So my recipe has no baking powder at all.

Also please please do not and I stress it again DO NOT use mixer to beat the batter unless you want your brownie to be cakey and not chewy/dense. Also I use Baker's Secret lamington pan and it's 30x19cms, it fits my brownie perfectly. So when baking please keep these in mind!

I swear, I baked this last week twice and both times received the same receptions from both my sharemates and friends. They love them and well in a little over an hour, finish the whole batch! So because it receives five brownie points from everyone, I am happy to share the recipe with you :)

Here goes the recipe:

Chewy Peanut Butter brownie Recipe

Hmmmm Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies
Recipe:
375g cooking white chocolate (That's right a package of white chocolate melts)
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup unsalted butter - softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2/3 cup packed light brown sugar
5 eggs (at room temperature)
2 tspns vanilla extract
1 1/4 cup plain flour
1 tspn salt

Methods:
  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degree C. Butter the lamington pan (or you can spray the pan with cooking oil)
  2. Put white chocolate in a cooking bowl and microwave for one min.
  3. In a different bowl add all the eggs and beat it with forks lightly, then set aside
  4. In the white chocolate bowl, add butter and peanut butter mix with whisk until all well blended.
  5. Then slowly add in both sugars (caster and brown sugar) - mix well
  6. Add sugars slowly bit by bit, next add the eggs (not all of them bit by bit) - then mix the batter with spatula until all blend in, then add in the flour+salt. Mix well but NOTE: do not over beat because your brownie will turn cakey.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25 mins (remember this depend on your oven, so please keep an eye, every 10 mins to ensure you won't burn the brownie)
  8. Once it's baked, take it out and leave it cool before serving or serve it hot with vanilla ice cream on top (YUMM)
  9. These brownies will store well in the freezer for a week. But I doubt you will have any left to store anyway...
HAPPY BAKING

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Sheet Cake

As promised, I am posting Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Sheet Cake

Well I was supposed to upload them last week, but I have millions of things that need my extra attention that I couldn't just leave them lying around (especially my assignments!!)

The thing about blog is, that I have been contemplating for so long whether to create one or not. Many of my friends really want me to create a blog so that I can at least share my recipes up here, or let them know places to eat in Sydney. BUT (there's a big but) the one thing that keep on niggling my mind is that to have a blog, you will need to keep updating it! I love to write but sometimes to lazy to post it, or when I get caught up with millions of other things to do, the blog is going to be left un updated for soooooooooooooooo long...
HOWEVER... now that I have made the effort to create one and also broadcast-ed this news to everyone, I guess I have to make the commitment to keep on updating it *-_-*

Without further a do, here's the peanut butter choc chip sheet cake recipe (gosh it's such a short name I am going to call it PBCC cake)
I made these babies in the morning and by mid day they are all gone... so yeah they are just that good, and I am not self praising myself, but the cake is really good, and as an added bonus if you add in 250gr dark chocolate chip (délicieux!)

Ingredients
1 cup of peanut butter (Yep one whole cup)
1/2 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup white sugar
1/3 cup packed brown sugar
4 eggs
1 tspn vanilla extract
1 cup plain flour
1 tspn baking powder (you can omit this if you don't have it)
1/4 tspn salt
250gr Dark Chocolate Chips

Directions

  1. Pre heat the oven to 175 degrees C (Please adjust this accordingly, everyone's oven has a mind of its own, if you have an oven thermometer please use this)
  2. My pan is Baker's secret Lamington pan - 30x19cm - Grease the pan (If you don't have pan this big, you can use slightly smaller pan but remember the smaller the pan, the longer you will need to adjust the baking time of the cake, also keep in mind the cake will rise. So either use two smaller pans (to get the thin "sheet like" cake) or use one big one like mine.
  3. In a medium bowl creamed softened butter and peanut butter (NOTE: if you want soft chewy consistency DO NOT use mixer but use whisk instead). Gradually add the brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, and vanilla; mix until flufy
  4. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt
  5. Stir the flour mixture to the liquid mixture, then with a spatula mix everything until well blended
  6. Pour into prepared pan, then put into the oven for 25-35 mins - This again depend on how you like your cake, if you like it chewy and moist 25 mins is more than enough. If you like cakey texture than the full 35 mins. (NOTE: I always do this when I bake a cake, when a recipe calls for 25 mins baking time, at around 15-20 mins, turn off the oven but leave the cake inside for another 5 to 10 mins) this way you can ensure that the cake won't over baked)

Fresh out of the oven!!

This cake can be stored in the freezer for three days (IF there's anything left for storing that is!)

Eat more be merry!

Update

Hi All,

I did say on my Instagram that I am going to upload the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip sheet cake tonight. However I just took allergy medicine and I am feeling rather dopey at the moment.
Also I feel like I need to tweak the recipe a little bit as I feel the cake that I baked today is a bit dry.
Perhaps I need to add more milk or buttermilk or turn it into a brownie?
You never know...
But I promise you it will be up this week that's for sure!

Plus I still have like three assignments that I need to do~ ALAS procrastination hits hard this time...

*Come on Yuli* you can beat procrastination!

Oh on another news update, I am going to continue my boxing training! Woohoo! Been really lazy and not doing ANY exercise at all in 2015! But not anymore! My body is extra heavy now and I need to do something about it. Maybe I should start with running first and then kickboxing next week? Then barre! Bah I better not just talk about it and not do them all at all! I wanna be the Yes Girl!! Yes I can do it!!

Enough with my blabbing about me now... sorry guys the medicine has started to kick in.. I am going to visit dream land soon!!

Cafe Patissez - Canberra

Ooohhh I've been wanting to go to this cafe for like forever!!
So when my auntie came visiting Sydney in September, and she suggested that we made a trip to Canberra I was over the moon!

Well I was super excited about this trips especially because this meant that I could finally get my hands of the Freak Shakes from Cafe Patissez.

So when the fateful day arrived, I woke up super early to prepare for the trip, there were eight of us going on this trip - we went on a bus, started driving from home at 7.30am and arrived in Canberra around 10am - ish. I suggested to the driver to stop by cafe Patissez as we were all quite hungry. I've been talking non-stop about the Freak Shakes the day prior the trip, so I was sure they knew the first destination to reach in Canberra is this cafe!

We arrived at Cafe Patissez at around 10:45am and had to wait for a table for two hours and thirty minutes!! But I was so determined to get my hands on these shakes that I convinced my auntie to wait.. (Thanks Aunt for being so patient!!)

When our turned arrived (Woohoo finally) - everyone was starving and so focused on the menu!
We ordered all five flavours of the shakes and some other meals.

Here they are:
Nutella & Salty Pretzel Shakes - $11.50

Like A Velvet Shakes - $11.50
The Muddy Pat Shakes - $11.50
Gay Time Shakes - $11.50
Salty Nuts Shakes - $11.50

Mann... People were walking past our table and kept asking for permission to take pictures of these shakes (Power of Instagram!)

Just like their name, they delivered what they promised - So beautiful, but mind you kinda hard to drink!! Because you get rid of all the goodies on top of the shakes to reach the shakes, unless you use the straws. Also if you are counting calories - forget these shakes!

  • Nutella shakes - Just like the name, is full of Nutella goodness mix with a little saltiness from the pretzels
  • Like A Velvet - Well one glance of the drink you will notice that it's topped with red velvet cake. Yes it's shakes full of red velvet goodness - Out of all shakes this one isn't overly sweet!
  • The Muddy Pat - For dark chocolates lovers, this one is for you. Dark chocolate brownies, with fresh creams, grilled marshmallow and below all the goodies, over flowing dark chocolate sauces give the shake an added WOW.
  • Gay Time - Just like the ice cream, chocolate mousse, topped with handmade gay time ice cream - a favourite of my cousin!
  • Salty Nuts Shakes - salted caramel shakes with bits of nuts! a wee bit too sweet for me...
Now that we had finished with the shakes, lets move on to the food:

I ordered The Get Pig'd - $19 - crusty bread, topped with pulled pork, poached egg, wilted spinach, topped with hollandaise sauce and sprouts - the serving is very generous - I couldn't finish this one (well maybe because I drank the shakes before this meal! My bad)
Get Pig'd - $19
Next, my cousin ordered The Salmon Dance - grilled salmon fillet, green beans, roasted baby potatoes, spicy chorizo, roasted roma tomatoes, poached eggs, and their famous homemade hollandaise sauce
The Salmon Dance - $21
Last meal was from their super brekkie burgers:
We chose Porky!! - Brioche milk bun, pulled pork, bacon jam, rockets and egg!! This was actually really good, but because we were already full from stuffing our faces with the shakes, didn't finish this meal - shame...
Porky Brioche Burger - $15
After all the meal and shakes, I still wanted something, namely cake! You should know by now that I am a Matcha Addict - so I ordered this super yummy matcha cake - the matcha flavour on this cake is very full on so perfect for matcha lovers like me - texture of this cake is kinda like red velvet cake only the colour is green and using lots of matcha powder here. I love the strong flavour of matcha in this cake, the combination of matcha cake and cream cheese layers, creates perfect moist and deliciousness of this cake. L-O-V-E.
Matcha Cake - $8
So if you are heading to Canberra anytime soon, make sure you drop by to Cafe Patissez for a touch o sweetness.

One Tea Lounge & Grill

This little hidden gem is located in York Street. Right next to my Barre class~
Hahah no wonder I gain more weight than losing it.

Started from opening stalls in Night Market in 2013, in June 2015 (this year) they officially opened their bar at 73 York Street, Sydney

They are famous for their sliders burger - consists of Ramen, Rice and Matcha sliders
I went with my friend and we ordered a server of the sliders:

Left to right: Ramen Burger, Rice Burger and Matcha Burger - set of three for $20
Ramen burger with original wagyu beef, Rice burger with braised pork rib and Matcha Burger with teriyaki chicken - Three different sliders for $20 - They do have vegetarian filling too - Miso Tofu patty.

NOTE: They only serve sliders for dinner, and sell normal size burgers for lunch.

We also have the Popcorn Curry Chicken with Green Tea Lime Mayo Sauce - I can't really taste the curry - taste like normal pop corn chicken...Even the green tea lime mayo, I can't taste the green tea flavour... maybe they didn't put a lot of green tea in it, as some people can't stand it if it's too strong.
Popcorn Curry Chicken with Green Tea Lime Mayo Sauce - $10
Then we also ordered the Matcha Fries - with green tea salt and seaweed: Normal fries sprinkled with Salted matcha powder and seaweed. Since my friend and I are matcha lovers, we just ordered everything with matcha.
Matcha Fries - $7
Then on to the drink - Genmaicha Latte - It's Matcha + Genmaicha (roasted brown rice tea)
Ice Genmaicha Latte - $8
Lastly yes, finally we are onto the dessert!! The long awaited dessert!!!

The famous Baoger!
We ordered two - Matcha and Black Sesame Baoger
Marcha and Black Sesame Baoger - $13
There are more flavours that you can choose from the menu, there's lychee and red bean. But we stuck to these two flavours, matcha and black sesame.
What's in it? Fried Chinese buns, filled with ice cream patty and red bean patty and slather with salted caramel sauce. I am not kidding guys, this is that good, that I came for a second the next week!

Cafe Romolo - Strand Arcade

Went to Cafe Romolo last week, as I felt very bored at home!
I was holed up in my room for three days last week, trying to finish three of my assignments! Crazy I know, but that's life I guess!
Since I was bored to death, and there's nothing to eat at home, so I went to the city to hunt for good food.

Walking around the city, trying to find a good brunch, passing a cafe one by one, finally stopping at Cafe Romolo in Strand Arcade.

They had a special on that day and it's the Japanese Fusion - Brioche sandwich with pork schnitzel or Tonkatsu. The difference betweeen Cafe Romolo's sandwich and Cafe Oratnek's tonkatsu sandwich is that, Cafe Romolo's tonkatsu sandwich uses brioche bread, and toast it. Also they use shredded purple and white cabbage then pan fried them then seasoned it with Kewpie Mayonnaise. Romolo's tonkatsu sandwich is oilier  than Cafe Oratnek's! Don't get me wrong both are equally nice, but Oratnek's sandwich is less oily - suits me more ^^
Pork Schnitzel Sandwich (Tonkatsu Sandwich) - $18
It's not me if I don't close off my meal with a dessert, so I ordered the chocolate cake - Can't remember the name of the cake, but it's chocolate mousse cake, with berry jelly compote inside on top of chocolate crunchy tart. Then to make it even sweeter, decorated with chocolate sauce! Bliss
Chocolate Berry Tart - $8.50

So if you are strolling through Strand Arcade next, drop by! They might still have the awesome Pork Schnitzel sandwich!

Cafe Romolo's details
Address: The Strand Arcade, 24/412-414 George St, Sydney NSW 2000

Oratnek Cafe

Today's post is dedicated to Oratnek Cafe in Redfern!

I found out about Oratnek through Instagram (If you haven't had Instagram account you are missing a whole heap of cool stuffs! Source of Foodporning and also cool places to hang out!)

All the food offered in Oratnek is homemade in house! How awesome is that?
I heard it from grapevine, Oratnek spell backwards is Kentaro - which is the name of the owner who goes by the name Kenny - full name Kenny Takayama.

The food offered in Oratnek is Japanese Fusion. I tried their Tonkatsu sandwich, stuffed chicken wing and also their Japanese Fried Chicken with Kimchi Mayo.

Their tonkatsu sandwich is 200g pork fillet covered in breadcrumbs and fried (like schnitzel but thick!), then shredded cabbages and seasoned with Japanese BBQ sauce and mustard! - Trust me this alone will keep you feeling full until dinner!
Tonkatsu Sandwich - $12
Their stuffed chicken wing is also super good - spicy pork minced stuffed in chicken wing the fried, served with Chilli Jam and Chips!
Stuffed Chicken wings with chips - $18
Their Japanese Fried Chicken (Chicken Karaage) with house kimchi mayo (Kinda like Japanese Fusion - Western Korean??) is also good but not as good as the Tonkatsu Sandwich - I am not sure if I am that fond with the Kimchi mayo...

Japanese Fried Chicken Toast - $12
For drinks I ordered Soy Matcha Latte and my friend ordered normal latte:
Soy Matcha Latte and Latte - $4.50 and $4

Andddddd.... my life would not be complete without the sweet desserts! Since I LOVE LOVE Matcha - Oratnek is like HEAVEN for me, because their bake goodies are full of matcha goodies too!
Check this out:

Matcha Lamington - Yes the famous Oratnek's Matcha Lamington - Soft vanilla sponge cake dipped in Matcha syrups then covered with coconuts! Not too sweet just right!
Matcha Lamington - $5 ish
The Matcha White Chocolate Muffin - not too sweet suitable for snacking or breakfast - pair it with match latte!
Matcha White Chocolate Muffin - $4.50
The Matcha Meringue - Surprisingly not as sweet as I have expected - The bitterness of matcha powder I guess help bring the sweetness down a little bit. Served with cream and strawberries.
Matcha Meringue - $7-8 ish
Then lastly is the Matcha Tiramisu - My absolute favourite - layers of matcha sponge cakes, with matcha cream OMG!!!! Full on Matcha!!
Matcha Tiramisu - $7-8ish
This place is MATCHA heaven! I am yet to try their Matcha Tart which is like really hard to get!! I have to call them once and a while to ask whether they have it on that day or not shame!!
Yes it's that one there Matcha White Chocolate Tart - $6.50
So there you go, three main meals and four desserts!! Yumm!!

I got out of Cafe Oratnek with a happy tum tum!

Here's Cafe Oratnek's details:
Address: 4 Pitt Street, Redfern, 2016
Opening Hours: Mon - Sat: 7:00AM - 16:00PM
                          Sunday:    8:00AM - 16:00PM

Blaq Pig Cafe

*Sigh*

I can't sleep! Too many assignments due at the same time, and now all I can think of is food and something sweet!
Which reminds me of this little cafe at the corner of Albert Road - near the Museum station.
Sadly they only open from Monday to Saturday - Double sad face on Saturday they only open from 8am to 2pm - for Breakfast and Lunch - which means I can't go there tomorrow if I want to!! Sad Sad

Since I love desserts, everytime I pay a visit to a cafe, first thing I look for in the menu is the "dessert column or page" and I found one that catch my eyes

Pandan Buttermilk pancake - $17.90
Coconut Ice Cream, two fluffy pandan pancakes, with walnuts and oats (lightly coated with brown sugar), fresh fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, mangoes and nata de coco jelly, sprinkled with icing sugar then instead of maple syrup it's the Salted Gula Melaka syrup (South East Asian - Coconut Palm Sugar) they give you to slather all over your pancake. This beautiful pancake will transport you to Asia in a jiffy!

Pandan Buttermilk Pancake $17.90
And I also have their Soy Chai Latte - around $4-5 ish

Soy Chai Latte - with honey $4-5 ish

Definitely worth a visit! I know that I am already planning a second visit soon!

Oh I forgot to mention they sell homemade donut balls too which I didn't try since I only had eyes for my pancakes this time around but will definitely give their home made goodies a try soon!

Here's Blaq Pig's address and their opening hours:

It's alright to write a blog post but then asking me to choose which desserts should be my second post, I have nooooooooooooo idea at all. CREMERIA DE LUCA - Gelato Burger

Vision and Mission

Ok! So I have to write what's my vision and mission (the purpose of my blog really)
Aside from daily ramblings about food, food and food...

The vision of this blog is
  • To become a place of foodies to go to when they want to find more information to eat.
Mission:
  • To search for the best food and post lots of food pictures
  • Travel all over the world in search for awesome desserts and share them through this blog

I know I know to be a professional food blogger you will need to be equipped with a better camera... Currently my only gadget is my trusty Iphone 6S plus... I have to admit that they have a really good camera phone!
But I also know that it's not enough especially when shooting in darker space, I will need a professional camera... So I am currently eyeing this baby:

Yes I am still waiting until there's a huge discount and then start investing in this baby!!

Oh you can follow me on Instagram too!

I am still trying to figure out how to put follow buttons on this blog so please bear with me!

Union Deli - Jakarta, Indonesia

This post is about Union| Brasserie, Bakery and Bar in Jakarta

I made the trip back in May and I swear! I was meant to start my blog back then.. but then things got into the way such as work, study (always blame it on study!! heheh) then a couple of other things..

But anyway here is the good food that I had, I posted them on Instagram before but I decided might as well post it here, as I can explain things better here!

Ok So these ultra delicious cakes are from Union Deli - Grand Indonesia in Jakarta.
This cafe is famous for their Red Velvet cake! See second pic! One bite and you will fall in love with it, the cream cheese frostings is oh my GAWT!

Red Velvet Cake - Rp. 55,000

Then comes the Red Velvet Pie - this one is a new addition... a friend told me that they only had this pie this year. Truth to be told, I think I love the pie better than the cake.. don't get e wrong if you like the soft consistency of a cake, you definitely will love the cake, but I like exploring and eating something different and this red velvet pie definitely delivers all my wants and needs!
The crunchy red velvet cookie topping pair it with the cookie crumble just the best!
They cost around Rp.55,000 each - Not bad at all around the same price of a piece of cake you will get in Australia anyway...

Red Velvet Pie - Rp. 55,000

Next up is the Pineapple cake! - if you have ever tried pineapple tart that the Chinese supermarkets sell, you will know how the taste of this cake is like... definitely like those pineapple tarts.. a bit sweet and tangy (due to the pineapple jam in the middle). To me this cake is a bit of a hit and miss... I tried to like it but there's just something missing... (Rp. 55,000/slice)

Pineapple Cake - Rp. 55,000

Then the last one is Cheese Cake! Not your normal cheese cakes that you will find in any Australian cake shops or cafes, this one is vanilla sponge cakes, layered with cream cheese + buttercream (with a bit of tangy lemon flavour) then topped it with a layer of cheese + buttercream frostings and lots and lots of shredded cheese! I love this cake as I love cheese in any forms! (Rp.55,000/slice)

Cheese Cake - Rp. 55,000

So next time when you are visiting Jakarta, make sure you make a time to visit this place! Highly recommended!
Time for me to indulge myself!!

Here's the address of this cafe!
Address:
Grand Indonesia East Mall Lt. G, Jl. MH.Thamrin No.1, Tanah Abang, Daerah Khusus Ibukota Jakarta 10230, Indonesia

Opening Hours:
Monday - Sunday from 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Welcome to my food adventure (desserts adventure to be exact!)

Hi!

My name is Yuli and I am originally from Perth then transported myself to Sydney to pursue my dream of working in Public Relations!
I am what you call a "foodie" and to be more precise a 'DESSERT Foodie". Yes I clearly have two stomachs... I can eat my normal meal and claim that I am full but STILL have space for dessert. No matter how full I am I always have a space reserve in my stomach for dessert... I am such a sweet tooth you just wouldn't believe it! Like seriously! I dread going to the dentist, because I know he will find something wrong with my teeth and then being stern to me...

Here's a preview of what I have had! Oh I love travelling too, so my pictures aren't just food available in Sydney but also  in Korea, Indonesia and some other places...

Remember only a preview first! Review and backstories of these goodies coming up soon :)

Peace, Love and Dessert!

Yuli
